"View as" shows you PeopleTeam exactly as another person sees it. It uses their real permissions, so it's the quickest way to check access after a role change or to help someone who says "I can't see it".
Start viewing as someone
You can start from either of these places:
- Their profile: open the person in People and choose View as.
- Your user menu: choose View as…, search for the person and select them.
The page reloads with their navigation, their Home and only the data they're allowed to see.
Who you can view as
| Your role | You can view as |
|---|---|
| Admin | Employees, managers, HR and accountants |
| HR | Employees, managers and accountants |
Nobody can view as an admin, and you can't view as yourself.
It's read-only
While you're viewing as someone, an amber banner sits at the top of every page. Nothing you do can change their data, or anyone else's:
- saving, approving, uploading and deleting are all blocked
- no emails or invites are sent
- AI photo tidy-up is turned off
If you try to make a change, you'll see a message saying changes are switched off.
Stop viewing
Choose Exit in the banner. You'll go straight back to the page you started from, still signed in as yourself. Your own session isn't touched at any point.
Viewing sessions end automatically after an hour.
Is it recorded?
Yes. Every "view as" session is recorded in the Audit log under Organisation & access, showing who viewed as whom and when.
