Request time off

Book annual, personal or other leave and follow it through to approval.

Updated 2026-10-28

Before you start

Check your balance on the Time Off page. Balances build up every pay cycle and already take away leave you’ve booked. See How leave balances work.

Send a request

  1. Go to Time Off and click Request time off.
  2. Choose the leave type, for example Annual leave or Personal/carer’s leave.
  3. Pick the start and end dates. For a single day you can choose a morning, afternoon or a set number of hours.
  4. Check the preview. PeopleTeam works out the hours from your work pattern and skips public holidays in your state.
  5. Add a note if it helps your manager, then click Send request.

Your manager gets an email and sees it on their Approvals page.

Confidential leave

Some leave types, like Family and domestic violence leave, are confidential. These requests go straight to HR, not your manager. Your manager and team only see that you’re on Other leave, and you don’t need to give a reason.

Other leave types

As well as annual and personal/carer’s leave, you can request compassionate leave, community service leave (for example jury duty or volunteer emergency work), parental leave, long service leave and unpaid leave.

If you don’t have enough balance

You can still send the request. It’s marked over balance and, after your manager endorses it, goes to the person your organisation has chosen to approve out-of-policy leave.

Change or cancel a request

  • Waiting for approval: open it from Your requests and choose Cancel request, then send a new one.
  • Already approved: you can cancel it until the day it starts. Your manager and payroll are told automatically.
